Opportunity
A complex, high-volume hub became an opportunity to modernize and enhance both passenger journeys and operations.
For decades, Delta's facilities at LaGuardia evolved through incremental expansion, resulting in disconnected passenger journeys, limited amenities, and operational inefficiencies. Replacing the terminals required balancing ambitious growth goals with the realities of one of the nation's most constrained airport sites. Working alongside the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, TSA, FAA, and construction partners, the team designed a new terminal to accommodate rising passenger expectations, emerging technologies, and long-term resilience in a changing climate.

The design integrates a complex airport program into a seamless passenger journey, organizing circulation, amenities, and boarding within one intuitive experience.
Passengers emerge from security into a light-filled concourse environment where retail, dining, seating, and boarding are visually connected through a clear spatial framework. Elevated circulation paths and double-height volumes simplify wayfinding while bringing natural light deep into the terminal and framing expansive views of the airfield. A consistent architectural language unifies all four concourses, combining floor-to-ceiling glass, warm materials, and integrated amenities to create a hospitality-driven experience. The result is a terminal that feels comfortable, welcoming, and engaging at every stage of the journey.
