Opportunity
Growing global interest in motorsport creates an opportunity for Spa-Francorchamps to welcome visitors beyond race weekends and strengthen its role as an international destination.
Spa-Francorchamps is known worldwide for Formula 1, but its dramatic track and Ardennes setting offer reasons to visit throughout the year. Escapade saw an opportunity to build on that appeal through hospitality embedded directly within the circuit, extending the experience for motorsport fans while reaching new audiences. The project also supports the circuit’s ambition to host a wider programme outside major race weekends. For Gensler, that meant introducing new accommodation and amenities while respecting the heritage and natural character that make Spa-Francorchamps distinctive.

Escapade Spa-Francorchamps will cement our appeal as a year-round destination, increase our ability to host a full range of sporting, commercial, and corporate events, and improve the overall experience for international guests.
Solution
Hospitality is woven directly into two of the circuit’s most recognisable corners, creating experiences shaped equally by motorsport and the surrounding landscape.
At Eau Rouge, the historic black-and-white villa remains the trackside focal point, with new hotel volumes positioned behind it. A panoramic restaurant and event spaces face the circuit, while 68 guestrooms turn towards the forest, river, and courtyard for a quieter experience. Curved forms respond to the track’s changing direction and the surrounding topography, while charred timber references the texture of racing tyres. At La Source, the historic T’Stertevens villa is restored alongside new hillside residences overlooking the start-finish straight.

From brief to build: studies of heritage, landscape, movement, and materiality shaped an architecture that connects the intensity of the circuit with the Ardennes.
The design process began with the qualities already embedded in Spa-Francorchamps: the Eau Rouge villa, the movement of the circuit and river, and the surrounding forest. Early studies explored how new accommodation and hospitality spaces could grow around the retained landmark while creating clear routes, daylight, and strong track views. The team then translated references from local architecture, landscape, and automotive design into the building’s façade rhythm, and material palette, developing a contemporary addition intended to feel specific to both the circuit and the Ardennes.

The villa, circuit, river, and Ardennes landscape informed a design language balancing motorsport energy with the character of its setting.
Impact
Escapade is designed to extend the life of Spa-Francorchamps beyond major race weekends, creating new reasons to visit one of motorsport’s best-known destinations.
Year-round accommodation and events can support the circuit’s long-term economic model while bringing sustained tourism activity and employment to the wider Ardennes region.

Staying Trackside
For the first time, guests will be able to stay within the circuit at Eau Rouge and La Source, turning a race visit into a longer experience.

Dining, wellness and flexible event spaces give Spa-Francorchamps facilities that can operate independently of race weekends and support a wider calendar of activity.
