Opportunity

The construction industry faces mounting pressure to reconcile tradition with urgent climate demands and evolving workplace expectations, and Hensel Phelps wanted its new headquarters to meet that moment.

As firms navigate this transition, their headquarters must authentically reflect both heritage and transformation. As an employee-owned construction firm driven by shared success, Hensel Phelps sought a global headquarters that would demonstrate its leadership and innovation in the construction industry while honoring nearly a century of craftsmanship. Its new home in Loveland, Colorado, needed to incorporate progressive building technologies and materials without compromising approachability or regional context.

Why This Matters

  1. 01

    A Building for Builders

A 142,000-square-foot headquarters turns construction expertise into a visible, daily expression of Hensel Phelps' culture and values. Hensel Phelps builds high-performing buildings across the nation, delivering excellence in all that it does. Its new corporate headquarters is designed to reflect that same skill through an exhibition of craft and detail.

  2. 02

    Sustainability Woven In

Hensel Phelps prioritizes sustainability at the foundation of all operations, and the building targets both LEED Gold and WELL Platinum, integrating mass timber, a photovoltaic array, and high-performance systems from the start.

  3. 03

    People at the Center

A three-story atrium anchors the workplace, designed to strengthen employee connection, collaboration, and well-being across every floor.

Our new headquarters is our home for future generations. Gensler delivered a solution that reflects our vision and our people.

Solution

The new headquarters embraces a holistic approach to sustainability, leveraging mass timber to reduce embodied carbon and sourcing materials from responsibly managed forests.

Targeting LEED Gold and WELL Platinum certifications, the design prioritizes both environmental performance and employee well-being. A three-story central atrium organizes the building, promoting collaboration and connection while celebrating the craft of construction through its exposed structure and materiality. From large-scale structural gestures to intimate interior details, every element reflects the precision and artistry of construction.

From brief to build: the project united vision, design, engineering, and construction execution under one tightly coordinated design-build approach.

Hensel Phelps is a world-class construction leader; therefore, every material choice and structural detail carried added accountability. The three-story atrium emerged as the organizing element, pulling daylight into the building and giving employees a shared social center. A flexible planning solution allows for future adaptability, fueling Hensel Phelps' focus on Connections, Conversations, and Culture. The building sits at the heart of a new walkable district, reflecting its commitment to Colorado, a symbol of its active presence in communities across the country.

Impact

The headquarters stands as a living testament to the company’s values, where tradition and transformation reinforce one another.
