Opportunity

Venues thrive when they offer year-round experiences that draw people in, foster connection, and create meaningful places for communities to gather.

Entertainment brings people together. As demand grows for shared, in-person experiences, sports and entertainment districts are reshaping civic life. The Grand Sierra Resort’s 140-acre campus offered a rare opportunity: underused land beside an established resort, set within a city on the rise. The resulting vision is a fully integrated, year-round destination that blends sports, hospitality, and leisure into an active place for residents and visitors at any hour.

Why This Matters

  1. 01

    Reno’s Defining Moment

Reno is amid an urban transformation. As the largest private capital investment in the city’s history, the project signals that Northern Nevada is ready to compete on the national stage.

  2. 02

    A District That Never Sleeps

Beyond game nights and concerts, a satellite community ice rink, fan plaza, and seamlessly integrated resort amenities ensure the campus remains alive and engaging every day, not just on event nights.

  3. 03

A New Home for Work Pack Basketball

The University of Nevada’s partnership brings Nevada Men’s Basketball to the arena beginning with the 2027-28 season, elevating the fan experience, strengthening recruiting, and anchoring the venue as a true community institution.

We are making tremendous progress on the design of the arena and amenities and continue to work closely with Gensler and the University of Nevada on all aspects of the arena.

Solution

The design solution removes silos, linking the arena, resort, hospitality, and civic spaces into one seamless, always-active destination.

Grand Sierra Resort Arena is designed as an integrated destination where movement, operations, and experience work seamlessly together. A 10,000-seat bowl anchors luxury suites, hospitality clubs, and an immersive fan zone, supported by technology that enhances every visit. Clear sightlines, intuitive circulation, and purposeful adjacencies connect the arena to the existing resort. A community ice rink and fan plaza extend activity beyond events, keeping the campus active throughout the day and night.

From brief to build: this project moved with the momentum of a city ready to claim its place as a premier sports and entertainment designation.

The journey began with a comprehensive master plan for Grand Sierra Resort’s 140-acre property, establishing a strategic framework to activate underused land and connect a major new venue to the broader resort campus.

Impact

When the Grand Sierra Resort Arena opens in Fall 2027, it will redefine what Reno means as a sports city, an entertainment destination, and a community built for the long term.

The arena changes the city’s identity in ways that extend well beyond the building itself, activating civic life, driving economic momentum, and giving the University of Nevada a home court worthy of its ambition.

What Changed Because of This

  1. 01

    Community Activation

Year-round programming, a community ice rink, a fan plaza, and seamless resort integration give the Grand Sierra campus a new community role.

  2. 02

    Economic Momentum

As the largest private capital investment in Reno’s history, it sets the stage for future development across Northern Nevada.

  3. 03

    Wolf Pack Basketball

The University of Nevada’s men’s basketball program gains a 10,000-seat home court beginning with the 2027-2028 season, transforming the game-day experience for fans, players, and recruits and raising the athletic profile of the university.

Seamlessly integrated with the resort, this new arena and community ice rink will be a catalyst for 24/7 life in the city, elevating local culture by creating new gathering places and delivering unforgettable experiences.
