As guest expectations evolved, Nemacolin needed to transform dated spaces into distinctive experiences that strengthened its identity as a world-class destination.

Nemacolin’s existing spaces no longer reflected the resort’s ambitions for elevated, experiential hospitality. Outdated guest areas, underutilized arrival spaces, and conventional event venues presented opportunities to improve both function and atmosphere. At the same time, the resort needed to appeal to dramatically different audiences, from families seeking playful daytime activities to guests pursuing sophisticated nightlife and entertainment. The challenge was to create memorable destinations across the property without sacrificing operational flexibility or losing the distinct character that makes Nemacolin unique.

Solution

Gensler transformed individual spaces into immersive experiences, using bold identities, flexible programming, and carefully calibrated interventions to create a cohesive resort journey.

Gensler tailored each destination to its purpose and audience. A sculptural glass canopy unified the Grand Lodge arrival at a single accessible grade. Nightcap became a theatrical cabaret through jewel-toned materials, intimate rooms, a brass-crowned fish tank, and a custom Chihuly chandelier. PJ’s combines colorful play spaces with an art studio, arcade, kids’ camp, and ice cream parlor. Meeting spaces received refined finishes and acoustic improvements, while lighter-touch upgrades transformed The Hardy Room’s cigar lounge without compromising its intimate character.

The design team partnered closely with Nemacolin leadership, guided in part by the CEO’s son, whose hands-on creative vision shaped both Nightcap and PJ’s. Programming workshops established each venue’s operational DNA, from Nightcap’s dual role as performance venue and corporate event space to PJ’s progression from ice cream parlor to creative studio and arcade. Specialty fabricators and structural engineers joined early to resolve complex elements, including the custom chandelier and brass-crowned fish tank, while mechanical coordination preserved the cigar lounge’s atmosphere.
