As Tampa evolves, Foley & Lardner needed a workplace that could modernize legal practice, strengthen client impressions, and reflect the city’s energy and growth.

Foley & Lardner’s Tampa office called for a new model of how a law firm could feel and perform. The existing space was inward-facing, with obstructed views, enclosed offices, and amenity areas that no longer matched the expectations of clients or staff. At the same time, legal workplaces were shifting toward hospitality and flexibility. The opportunity was to create a higher-performing office that supported focused work and collaboration while expressing a stronger connection to Tampa’s identity and momentum.

The redesign opens the office around a central hospitality spine, using transparency, flexible boundaries, and a sculptural stair to connect people and place.

The design transforms a dated workplace into a more welcoming and legible environment by linking reception, café, boardroom, and event functions through a central hospitality hub. Glazed-front offices replace closed fronts to increase openness and daylight, while sliding perimeter walls allow key spaces to expand and contract as needed. A sculptural stair physically and visually connects the two levels, reinforced by a custom Lasvit glass installation inspired by Tampa’s waterfront. Murals by local artist Pep Rally bring regional character into daily experience, helping the office feel both elevated and unmistakably local.

From Brief to Build: translating a trusted client partnership into a renovation that balances hospitality, cultural identity, and the performance demands of legal work.

The process focused on reworking circulation, visibility, amenity spaces, and conferencing across two floors to create a more connected workplace experience. The team strategically used glazed office fronts, retractable partitions, and hospitality stations to create a more transparent and adaptable workplace. The sculptural stair became a functional connector and a defining spatial element. Local art, regionally resonant materials, and the Lasvit installation modernized the office while strengthening Foley & Lardner’s presence in Tampa and aligning the workplace with the firm’s evolving culture.
