Opportunity

Meta sought a workplace that reflected the energy, complexity, and transformation of Gurugram while fostering creativity, collaboration, and belonging.

Located in one of India's fastest-transforming business districts, Meta's Gurgaon workplace presented an opportunity to translate the city's distinctive character into a meaningful employee experience. As Meta's first standalone office in Asia, the project needed to house the company's largest team in the country, spanning Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Gurugram's landscape is defined by the coexistence of rapidly rising commercial towers, established neighborhoods, and informal urban patterns. Rather than designing a generic corporate environment, the ambition was to craft a space that felt rooted in its context and gave employees a workplace they could genuinely connect with.

Why This Matters

  1. 01

    Reflecting Local Identity

As Meta expanded its presence in India, creating a workplace grounded in the culture and character of Gurugram was essential to fostering authenticity, connection, and belonging.

  2. 02

    Supporting Creative Culture

The environment needed to embody Meta’s innovative spirit, inspiring collaboration, curiosity, and flexibility while providing diverse settings for employees to work and interact.

  3. 03

    Celebrating Urban Transformation

The project offered an opportunity to capture the story of a rapidly evolving city, translating its energy, contrasts, and aspirations into a memorable workplace experience.

Solution

Gensler transformed Gurugram’s organized urban complexity into a workplace concept that balances creativity, movement, and local storytelling.

Drawing inspiration from Gurugram's evolving cityscape, Gensler developed a design language centered around "organized clutter," interpreting the coexistence of modern development and historic neighborhoods. Staggered enclosed volumes with vibrant facades reference traditional homes emerging within a contemporary setting, while varied flooring patterns evoke the spontaneity of street art. Large-scale commissioned artworks by Indian artists Pratap Morey, Rohini Devasher, and Sameer Kulavoor reinforce the city's layered identity, with Rohini's piece spanning over 65 feet and Pratap's stretching across all six floors. The flexible, non-linear layout encourages exploration, collaboration, and ownership.

From brief to build: how Meta's first standalone office in Asia turned Gurugram's urban chaos into contemporary workplace design.

Realising Meta's Gurgaon workspace meant translating the energy of an entire city into six floors of contemporary office space. The design team worked with Indian artists Pratap Morey, Rohini Devasher, and Sameer Kulavoor to commission large-scale artworks reflecting India's shifting cultural and ideological identity, from Rohini's 65-foot installation to Pratap's artwork spanning every floor. Exposed concrete, wood finishes, and street-art-inspired graphics were layered throughout, while the flexible, non-linear floor plan was built to achieve LEED Platinum certification alongside its cultural ambitions.

Impact

The result is a workplace that authentically reflects its surroundings while strengthening employee connection, creativity, and workplace experience.

Beyond the workplace itself, the building houses Meta's "Centre for Fuelling India's New Economy," aiming to train 10 million small businesses and 250,000 creators.
