Opportunity

As a global financial services firm expanded its presence in India, it sought a workplace that could unify teams while reflecting Mumbai's unique character.

To support its rapid growth in India, the client expanded its Mumbai office and engaged Gensler to capitalize on the design principles developed by Gensler while working on the clients’ offices in New York and London. The challenge was to create a seamless connection between a globally recognized brand and a distinctly local workplace experience. Spread across the building's uppermost floors, the new office needed to encourage collaboration across business units, maximize access to daylight and city views, and provide hospitality-driven amenity spaces that support interaction, wellbeing, and a strong sense of community.

Solution

A journey-based workplace strategy connected focused work with collaboration, learning, and community, anchored by a vibrant amenity ecosystem.

The design follows the employee experience journey, creating a workplace that supports a range of work modes throughout the day. While individual work remains largely desk-based, a variety of collaborative, social, and learning environments encourage interaction beyond daily tasks. A central street lined with collaboration zones connects each floorplate's east and west sides and links directly to the vertical circulation cores. On the arrival floor, consolidated amenities form a dynamic, hospitality-driven hub where employees connect and recharge. Moving through the campus, users pass from energetic, community-focused spaces to highly functional work environments.

Mapping work modes, employee journeys, and amenity experiences to create a workplace that could adapt and evolve.

The design process began with an in-depth study of employee behaviours, business functions, and evolving workplace expectations. Through workshops, workplace strategy exercises, journey mapping, and iterative planning studies, the team identified how employees work, connect, learn, and recharge throughout the day. These insights informed an experience-led framework that consolidated amenities into a vibrant social hub while creating a clear transition to focused work environments.
